David Brown joined Leo Baeck Institute in 2010. As Director of Public History, he produces the LBI website, newsletter, and other publications, and he oversees the LBI's public programs, including lectures, panel discussions, film screenings, and performances. He has also directed major projects including LBI's award-winning podcast "Exile" (hosted by Mandy Patinkin) and Stolpertexte, in which German-language literary authors write short pieces about collections in the LBI archives.
Before joining the LBI, David worked as a Public Diplomacy Specialist at the German Embassy in Washington, DC, where he edited online news about Germany for an American audience. He studied German and History at Northwestern University and the Humboldt-University in Berlin. He has also studied Russian and Korean, and he has worked as a translator, stagehand, hardware store clerk, and musician.
