Nobel Preisträger in LBI Sammlungen


The German chemist Richard Martin Willstätter (1872 –1942) was honored with the 1915 Nobel Prize for Chemistry. In 1939 he was forced to emigrate to Switzerland, where he died in 1942.

Thomas Mann (6 June 1875 – 12 August 1955) was one of the most influential German novelists. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1929.

The cellular physiologist Otto Meyerhof was born in Hannover in 1884. He taught at the Universities of Kiel, Berlin and Heidelberg, and he received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1922. Meyerhof immigrated to the US in 1940, teaching at the University of Pennsylvania in a position, created for him by the Rockefeller Foundation.

The Austrian journalist Alfred Hermann Fried (1864-1921) was a co-founder of the German peace movement. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1911.

The theoretical physicist Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany in 1879. He developed the theory of relativity and received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics. Einstein immigrated to the United States in 1933 and died in Princeton, NJ in 1955.
