Ludwig Goldscheider and Bela Horovitz re-established the Phaidon Press in London in 1938. Along with Frederick Ungar, they had founded the publishing house in Vienna in 1923.
Stanley Unwin had purchased all the stocks of Phaidon in 1937 in order to prevent Aryanization. Subsequently, he arranged the company's relocation to London shortly before the Anschluss.
Phaidon Press specialized in high-quality art books, including large-format books. The press achieved remarkable success and remained in business until today.
