Georg Bernhard, with the help of friends, began to publish the Pariser Tageblatt in December 1933. Bernhard became the editor-in-chief and Wladimir Poliakov became the publisher. On June 11, 1936, a conflict between Bernhard and Poliakov escalated and Bernhard renamed the newspaper Pariser Tageszeitung. There were accusations that Poliakov threatened to collaborate with the Nazi regime, although this proved later to be unfounded.
The Pariser Tageszeitung was published until February 17, 1940. Bernhard was briefly interned in a camp, but was able to escape to the United States.
