Deutschlandjahr Takes German-Jewish History—and LBI—on the Road
Regina Jonas, "Kann die Frau das rabbinische Amt bekleiden?" (Can a Woman hold Rabbinic Office?), Berlin, 1930.
Regina Jonas' thesis at the Hochschule für die Wissenschaft des Judentums in Berlin makes an affirmative argument for the ordination of women as Rabbis. "“Almost nothing halakhically but prejudice and lack of familiarity stand against women holding rabbinic office,” concluded Jonas, who became the first woman to be ordained as a Rabbi in 1935.
