Miriam Clayton

Miriam Clayton has worked at the Leo Baeck Institute since January 2020. She was originally the Digital Collections Manager and last year began working on the Photo Collections in her new role as Digital and Photo Collections Manager. She previously worked part-time as the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian at the Center for Jewish History from 2018 to 2020. In her current position, Miriam oversees access and preservation for digital and archival collections and other digital objects at the Leo Baeck Institute. She originally catalogs photographs in the Integrated Library System Aleph within the Photo Collection. She also provides access to the Leo Baeck Institute’s documentation for researchers by formatting and ingesting digital files into the Center for Jewish History’s shared Digital Asset Management System, Rosetta, and making it discoverable via Primo.

Having previously worked as an educator in Spain and being knowledgeable in digital coding contribute to her skills in connecting system users with digital materials. Her experience in a variety of foreign languages including Spanish, German, Italian and French also contribute to her role in cataloging photographic material. She obtained dual Master of Science and Master of Arts degrees in Library and Information Science and in History of Art and Design, along with a certificate in Museum Studies, from the Pratt Institute in 2019. She earned her first Master of Arts degree from the Universidad de Alcalá in Spanish Literature in 2011. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in Art History, Spanish and Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies, along with a certificate in European Studies, from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
