Exhibition
On view: Unpacking Exile.
Each episode of the LBI podcast Exile tells the story of someone forced to grapple with the loss of home, culture, language, security, or family due to Nazi persecution. In the companion exhibition, Unpacking Exile, we present eight of those stories through the artifacts and documents in LBI collections that allowed us to tell them. If you listened to seasons 1 and 2 of Exile and found yourself wishing you could leaf through Florence Mendheim’s reports from her time infiltrating American Nazi groups, see the photograph that Kurt Kleinmann sent to a perfect stranger in New York who soon agreed to marry him, or catch a glimpse of Albert Einstein, drifting in the breeze with his lover aboard the Tümmler before the storm broke, then take a tour of this exhibit.
