Ernst Goldschmidt founded the Editions de la Connaissance in Brussels in November 1936. The publishing company specialized in art books and museum catalogs.
Goldschmidt had received his doctorate in art history from the University of Vienna. He left Vienna with his family before the Anschluss. During World War II, he voluntarily served in the French and English armies. After the war, he resumed directing Editions de la Connaissance until his retirement at 75.
