Dr. Ronald B. Sobel Collections Preservation Fund
At its annual fundraising gala on November 17, 2020, the Leo Baeck Institute announced the creation of the Dr. Ronald B. Sobel Collections Preservation Fund. The Sobel Fund was established in recognition of Dr. Ronald B. Sobel, LBI’s President Emeritus and Senior Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Emanu-El.
Donors of this fund contribute to support the processing, conservation, and digitization of materials in the Institute’s holdings, which comprise the world’s leading collection of original documents, artefacts, artwork, and ephemera relating to German-speaking Jewish history and culture. LBI’s collections document the experiences, achievements, and legacies of German-Jewish immigrants and refugees from the 19th century, including those who founded Temple Emanu-El and those who escaped from Nazi persecution in the 20th century. LBI strives to preserve their legacy and to apply it to relevant contemporary issues.
