Eric Proskauer founded the Nordemann Publishing Co. in New York in July 1937. The publishing house specialized in scientific publications and received financial support from Maurits Dekker and Johann Gerhard Nordemann.
Proskauer had earlier worked for the Akademische Verlagsgesellschaft in Leipzig, where he was trained in the publishing business. He later founded Interscience Publishers Inc.
Walter Johnson, the co-owner of the Akademische Verlagsgesellschaft, later founded the Academic Press Inc. in New York.
