Willy Verkauf founded the publishing house "Willy Verkauf" in Jerusalem in 1942. He published the journals Erbe und Zukunft and Bücherschau. He was also active in Austrian émigré politics.
Verkauf had arrived in Palestine in 1933 with his parents. He and his wife were arrested and sentenced to twelve months in prison by the British Mandate government due to suspicions of communist activity. He returned to Vienna after World War II.
