Biographical/Historical Information
The Jewish philosopher and theologian Jacob Guttmann was born in Beuthen, Silesia (Bytom, Poland) in 1845. After studying in Breslau at the University and at the Jewish Theological Seminary, he served as rabbi in Hildesheim before moving to Breslau in 1892. Guttmann published numerous volumes on the history of Jewish philosophy, particularly throughout the Middle Ages. Jacob Guttmann died in Breslau in 1919.
