Biographical/Historical Information
The physicist Gerhard Herzberg was born in Hamburg in 1904. He studied and then taught at the Darmstadt University of Technology. Herzberg emigrated to Canada in the 1930s, pursuing his career as a nuclear physicist and physical chemist. In 1971, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. Gerhard Herzberg died in Ottawa, Ontario in 1999.
