Biographical/Historical Information
The educator and writer Mendel Hirsch (1833-1900) was the eldest son of Samson Raphael Hirsch, the founder of the Jewish orthodox congregation in Frankfurt/M. Mendel Hirsch taught Jewish and general subjects at high schools, and for 17 years he was headmaster of the Jewish elementary school of the orthodox movement "Yeshurun” ("straight/honest") in Frankfurt. He also published several works on Jewish religious topics.
