Biographical/Historical Information
The philosopher, sociologist, and political journalist Ludwig Stein was born in Erdőbénye near Tokaj in Northern Hungary in 1859. He began his career as a rabbi of an orthodox Jewish congregation in Berlin, before teaching sociology at the University of Berne, Switzerland. Residing in Berlin for more than twenty years, he wrote under the nom de plume “Diplomaticus”, and his lectures attracted many politicians, such as Walther Rathenau, Trotsky, Rosa Luxemburg, and many others. Ludwig Stein died in Salzburg in 1930.
