Biographical/Historical Information

Otto Meyerhof was born in Hannover in 1884. After studying medicine, his interest turned to cellular physiology under the influence of Otto Warburg. In 1922 he received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. He left Germany in 1938 and went to Paris, where he became Director of Research at the Institut de Biologie physico-chimique. In 1940, he immigrated to the US. Otto Meyerhof died in Philadelphia in 1951.
