Biographical/Historical Information

Albert Einstein had two sons in his first marriage with Mileva Marić: Hans Albert (1904-1973) and Eduard (1910-1965).

The engineer Hans Albert Einstein was born in Bern, Switzerland in 1904, the older son of Albert Einstein and his first wife, Mileva Marić. Hans A. Einstein grew up in Zurich with his younger brother Eduard and their mother, after she and Albert Einstein had separated. Hans A. Einstein emigrated to the U.S. in 1938; he died in Massachusetts in 1973.

Eduard Einstein was born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1910, the younger son of Albert Einstein and his first wife, Mileva Marić. Eduard Einstein grew up in Zurich with his older brother Hans and their mother, after she and Albert Einstein had separated. Eduard suffered early on from schizophrenia and was under constant medical care. Eduard Einstein died in Zurich in 1965.
