    Medal donated by the German president in the year of Goethe’s 100th anniversary of his death, “for science and the arts”.

    One side: profile of a man with inscription "Goethe"; the other side: inscribed "Fuer Kunst und Wissenschaft - Gestiftet im Goethejahr 1932, Der Reichspraesident" with the Reichsadler (eagle) emblem. Contained in a red box with velvet inset.

Biographical/Historical Information

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) was a German writer, scientist, statesman, theatre director, critic, and amateur artist. He is considered one of the greatest German literary figures.

Adolft Goldschmidt (1863-1944) was an art history professor at the University of Berlin. He was the uncle of Martin Goldschmidt.
