Biographical/Historical Information
Carl Lewin was born in Kolmar in Posen (Chodzież, Poland) on May 1, 1881. His wife, Charlotte Hirsch was the cousin of Simon and Salman Schocken, the founders of the "Schocken A.G." department stores. Carl Lewin died on September 2, 1946.
Georg Kolbe was born in Waldheim, Saxony in 1877. A member of the Berliner and the Freie Sezession, he first trained as a painter, but then began sculpting in a modern, yet classical style, which made him one of the most outstanding modern German artists in his time. Georg Kolbe died in Berlin in 1947.
