Biographical/Historical Information
The author, journalist and satirist Karl Kraus was born in Bohemia in 1874. In his periodical “Die Fackel”, Kraus attacked relentlessly German and Austrian culture, press, and politics, from the journal’s first appearance in 1899, through 922 irregularly issued numbers until 1936. Karl Kraus died in Vienna in 1936.
