Biographical/Historical Information
Mjölnir was the alias of illustrator Hans Schweitzer, an artist who produced many propagandistic posters for the Nazi Party. "Mjölnir" is the name of Thor's hammer in Norse mythology.
In order to mobilize the last reserves of strength, Hitler called up the "Volkssturm" on 18 October 1944 during what would be the final months of World War II. The Volksturm was made up of all men between the ages of 16 and 60, even those who were previously declared unfit for military service. Heinrich Himmler, who had previously survived an assassination attempt on July 20, 1944, lead the training and command of the Volkssturm troops.
