Siegfried Altmann
(1887-1963), a social worker by training, who was the director of the Hohe Warte Institute of the Blind in Vienna until 1939. He emigrated to the U.S. and served as the business director of the Austrian Institue in New York, (now the Austrian Cultural Forum) from 1943 until 1958, when he became its director.
