The Burgtheater [Court Theater], built in 1741. Among the Viennese it is simply die Burg and one of Vienna’s emblems as well as one of the most significant theaters in German-speaking Europe.

Johann Strauss II
     

Johann Strauss II (1825-1899), the “Waltz King”, elevated the waltz from a lowly country dance to royal entertainment fit for the Habsburg Court. Strauss is best known as the composer of The Blue Danube, Tales from the Vienna Woods, and Die Fledermaus.
