Arnold Taenzer

Aaron (Arnold) Tänzer (1871-1937), was born in the Austro-Hungarian town of Pressburg (today, Bratislava, Slovakia). He received his doctorate from the University of Berlin and, after joining the rabbinate, served as a rabbi in Hohenems (Austria), Meran in Tyrolia, and Göppingen (Germany), where he died. During World War I, Tänzer volunteered to serve as an army chaplain in the Bug Army on the Eastern front in the Ukraine. In addition to his military duties, Tänzer actively helped organize relief efforts, to help of the local Jewish population, such as this soup kitchen.
