Anitta Muller-Cohen

Anitta Müller-Cohen
(1890-1962) founded the Social Aid Society which helped thousands of Jewish refugees from Eastern Europe displaced by World War I, and soon grew into one of the largest private aid organizations in Vienna. At the same time, Anitta Müller-Cohen wrote articles for numerous Jewish and non-Jewish newspapers and turning to Zionism, became active in the Jewish National Party. In 1819, she was elected to the Vienna City Council. After several travels to Palestine, she settled in Tel Aviv in 1934, where she continued her social work.
