Propaganda leaflet issued by German nationalist, Dietrich Eckart, editor of the weekly, Auf gut deutsch (In True German Fashion), 1916:
To all working people!
To all, who are working, irrespective of where and in what field,
if only they have work!
To all reasonable people!
There is none with property who isn’t being criticized these days. Industry, agrarians, church, citizens, whoever has money or at least seems to have some will not be spared. Only one issue isn’t talked about, one never hears one word, never a sound; and yet there is no curse in the world greater than this. I’m talking about
The interest capitalists!
You know them? Probably everyone heard about them, but I don’t think that you truly know them. Otherwise you would forget all your other problems and proceed, arm in arm, to strangle the beasts before morning dawns.
I shall explain them to you in a brief sketch. But listen well! For if any enlightenment can turn you into what you long to be, happy individuals, only this will help. Nothing but these measures!
The interest capitalists earn money without working, they earn it through interests. I repeat: without having to move a finger, the capitalist increases his capital by lending his money. It grows by itself. Someone may be as lazy as he likes – if only he has enough money and collects interests, he has the most beautiful life; and his children don’t have to work, either, neither his grandchildren and his great grandchildren for all eternity! Doesn’t everyone feel how unfair and shameless this all is?
This interest capital grows immeasurably, by means of interests. Just one example: In 1808 the interest business of the house of Rothschild started with the few million that the Margrave of Hesse, who had fled the country, had entrusted to him. It must have been well over 10 million, at any rate no more than 20. Today, after about 110 years the Rothschild’s property amounts to 40 billion!
The house of Rothschild owns 40 billion!
Not millions, but billions! If this goes on in the same way, he’ll own 80 billion in 1935, 160 billion in the year 1950 and 320 billion in 1965. Billions! It sounds like the ravings of a madhouse inmate, but it’s true! The Rothschilds only need to administer their property, merely see to it that it is always well invested; however, they don’t need to work, at least not what is commonly known as work.
Who helps them and their ilk multiply their money on such a gigantic scale? After all, the interest must come from somewhere, these gezillions of additional billions must be made from somebody’s hard labor! Whose? You are the ones, nobody but you! Yes, indeed, it is your money, earned with hardship and worry. |
