Hermann Struck appeared
on the Berlin art scene at a time of great artistic turmoil just
when his generation of young artists was clamoring to break free
from the academic conventions and non-egalitarian structures of
the traditional art societies. Struck was no artistic rebel, but
did become interested in printmaking, which was just beginning to
be recognized as an independent art form in its own right. Under
the influence of Max Liebermann, Struck became an official member
of the Secession in 1904 and only left in 1915, when he enlisted
into the Army.
